LEEVEY SHIELD - RESULTS

Our Waikato Team took off on the early hours on Saturday 20th May to head down to Taumarunui Squash Club to play against Central for the annual Leevey Shield Challenge. Waikato were looking at regaining the Shield, as we haven't held it for a couple years.

The half time scores were tight Central taking a slight lead 5-7 in matches. Waikato was hoping to have a dominant second half of matches, but unfortunately Central proved too strong and won 14-10 overall.

A big thank you to Taumarunui Squash Club for being great hosts and putting on an awesome spread, Cheesey for being Camp Dad & Driver and to our Waikato players for competing. We will get Squash Central next year!

WAI/BOP J GRADE FESTIVAL OF SQUASH

We held the first WaiBOP J Grade Festival of Squash over at Devoy Squash & Fitness Centre on Sunday 23rd May and it was AMAZING!!!

Coaches and juniors from across Waikato and Bay of Plenty came together for a day of all things squash. Playing on the glass court like the pros, trying out the different features of the interactive court, testing their speed and focus on the BlazePods, improving their skills with coaching, matchplay and other games with new friends were all part of the day. Players came in a little shy and left with big grins and a bunch of new friends - all excited about the next one on August 6th at United Matamata Squash Club.

Thank you to all of the players, parents and coaches that made our first (hopefully of many) WaiBOP J Grade Festival of Squash such a huge success. We will post more photos and videos of the day over the next few weeks.

We look forward to seeing everyone again in August - there are still spots available for the August Festival. For more information or to register please contact Emma at development@squashwaikato.co.nz

SQUASH WAIKATO IN SCHOOLS

Squash Waikato are going back to school!

Recently we have been lucky enough to get back into some of our North Waikato schools to provide their tamariki the opportunity to give squash a go. The new portable walls have been a hit with the near 200 tamariki that have given squash a go for the first time over the last 2 weeks and they are looking forward to their next sessions - each class getting 4-5 sessions over several weeks.

Watch this space for updates on the North Waikato Squash in Schools Programme and other exciting initiatives that Squash Waikato have in the pipelines.
